Adult Strabismus
Misalignment of the eyes (one eye turned in, out, up, or down relative to the other eye) can be treated optically or surgically corrected in some cases. Surgery for strabismus is not considered a cosmetic procedure. Instead, it is considered reconstructive as there may be functional and socio-economic benefits.
Dr. Yang is one of the most experienced adult strabismus surgeons in the Tri-State area. He has performed well over 700 adult strabismus surgeries (many of them complicated and involving reoperations or adjustable technique) in over 21 years of practice.
Dr. Yang is one of the few surgeons in the Cincinnati area who performs adjustable strabismus surgery on a frequent basis and has taught other strabismus surgeons on this technique.
While not every patient needs to have an adjustable strabismus surgery, for the right patient this technique may increase the chance of success with surgery.
Dr. Yang is also one of the few, if not the only, surgeon in the Cincinnati area who is comfortable operating on a patient who has a glaucoma tube shunt in the eye who also needs strabismus surgery, since he also performs tube shunt glaucoma surgeries and is familiar with the challenges of doing strabismus surgery on those patients.
Patients with previous scleral buckling (retinal detachment) surgery may also benefit from adjustable strabismus surgery.
Patients with thyroid associated strabismus also present unique challenges in that Dr. Yang is familiar with.
