Dry eyes and Belpharitis

Dry eyes can be difficult to treat. Dr. Yang can diagnose exactly how dry your eyes are with Schirmer strips (which measure the amount of tear production) and devise a suitable course of therapy. In addition to artificial tears, punctal plugs (usually covered by insurance) which block tear drainage down into the nose can increase the amount of natural tears available to lubricate the eye.  Other treatments include anti-inflammatory eye drops, systemic medications, and/or nasal sprays that can stimulate tear production.

Blepharitis often accompanies and makes dry eyes worse. Warm compresses and lid scrubs may be helpful. If scaling and biofilm occurs along the eyelid margins, Blephex treatment (link below) which scrubs and abrades the biofilm off of the eyelid margins may be more effective than standard lid scrubs that one has to perform oneself. This is not an insurance covered procedure. Dr. Yang offers it at a low out of pocket cost per eye.
